The United Nations General Assembly has proclaimed 2015, the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL2015). The global initiative covered thousands of events reaching millions of people in over a hundred countries. The IYL 2015 will be brought to an official close with a ceremony held over three days from 4 to 6 February 2016 in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico.
